We had company this weekend and I couldn't get to any supplies (not that that would help too much) so I made these 'Gutsy Girls' as my artwork for inch x inch this week. I started with the idea of synonyms (I'm more of a word person than artist) and first I just made a collage of the words, which didn't thrill me since I did a random collage of shoes last week. But as I was putting the collage away to dry, I suddenly thougth of making the words into something like a 'paper doll'. I think they're kind of cute!
The words, from the top down are spirit, pluck, strength, tenacity, valor, courage, guts, dauntless, audacity, fortitude. My husband had a problem with 'pluck', it's a little old fashioned - kind of a 'Laura Ingalls Wilder/Little House on the Prairie' word - but it definitely means courage.

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear. ~Ambrose Redmoon
cute, I like they are twins and looks like they're dancing, maybe off to do something gutsy, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteI came in from Remembering Paris to view the Tuesday's art work. What a treat. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHow CLEVER! Whoah! I am really liking the ideas that folks have come up with this week for the INCH by INCH project. =)

Your Gutsy Girls rock!
ReplyDeleteAnd that quote that you shared, "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear. ~Ambrose Redmoon" really struck home with me!
love your art and that Redmoon quote is so true
ReplyDeletePluck up --nothing wrong with using "pluck!" It's a great word and perfect for this charming little piece. I really like what you've done here. Very clever AGAIN, and especially so when you consider you didn't have many supplies. Thanks for joinging into this cop op!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool Kristy! Great, great quote!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteyes, go to an art store, and in their oil paint section you may find dry pigments, the dark ones should be mixed with linseed oil. The light ones are usually mixed with poppy oil, or sunflower, or safflower oils.
Interesting use of words with color and design. It appears you created an art product.
:)
This is really neat and creative! You've got quite a way with words! ;)
